The Pocket Rockets are affordable, decodable booklets for young beginning readers, to support explicit synthetic phonics teaching using the Letters and Sounds sequence. A box of ten copies of the first set costs $34, so a class of five-year-olds can have a set each for $102. They can be carried between home and school in small photo albums or CD holders. Available from or www.smartkids.com.au. Reading matters also sells a parent pack with one copy of each booklet from both boxes, but sadly the app is now no longer available (IOS kept changing and it couldn’t keep up).
